Green Woodpecker (Picus viridis)

The image for today is of a male Green Woodpecker (Picus viridis) that was taken on the grass outside of patio doors of the flat.  Green woodpeckers feed mainly on ants, which is what this character was up to.  They tend to be very nervous, normally taking flight at the slightest movement from the flat.

Today, this male (identified by the red patch on the lower cheek joining the bill) was quite obliging and put up with the gentle movements of the curtains to stick the lens through.
